The Bethlehem Palette Club is the recipient of a $900 grant by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission. We are grateful to Sandra Corpora, who applied for a grant to help fund our three art exhibitions during the next club year. Bernie Tyler and Louise Cosgrove will be attending the awards luncheon on May 9 at the Hotel Bethlehem to receive the award.

The committee of the Moravian Exhibit regrets that so many paintings had to be eliminated. The facility only holds approximately 50 pieces comfortably. When we decided to allow two submissions in order to have a strong show, we didn’t expect 99 submissions. Therefore, almost half had to be rejected, not because of quality, but because of numbers. We learned a lesson and hope we have not discouraged our members (especially our new members) not to enter shows in the future. Our criteria for future shows will be that in small venues we only allow one entry and in larger venues like the Allentown Art Museum and the Lehigh Mountain Top Gallery we allow one or two entries. It was an obvious strain on the juror to cut out so many excellent pieces. Please don’t be discouraged if your work was not accepted. The next show will be at the Mountain Top Gallery of Lehigh University in October. Enter those lovely paintings that were not accepted at Moravian. Also, we will be able to allow larger pieces in that show

A message from our Palette Club President, Sandy Corpora:
“As outgoing president, I want to thank all the club members for their membership and their involvement in the Bethlehem Palette Club. It's been a privilege to be part of the biggest and best art organization in the Lehigh Valley. I've been proud of the quality of the programs and workshops and activities we offer, the exhibits are first rate and our website is outstanding. Now with our annual members’ booklet, everyone has better information and access to other members. Please do what you can to get involved; it's fun and enriching. Thank you.”

Our Palette Club members would like to thank Sandra Corpora for an excellent job on leading our club over the past two years. And, to the outgoing Board members: Adolf Klova and Bernie Tyler, as well as all our club’s officers, board members, committee chairs and all those club members who helped us during the year. Your tireless effort and devotion to the club is greatly appreciated.

The new slate of officers starting in September is: Linda Anderson, President; Li-Hsien Price, Vice President; Wayne Strader, Treasurer; Phyllis Facchiano, Secretary. And three new board members

Fran Roseman, Sharon Hergenrother and Li-Hsien Price. We are grateful to them for accepting these positions.

A painting tip from artist Elizabeth Mowry - Pastel Journal 2/05

“Keep the subject simple. A painting of one exquisite idea about nature will have more impact than a painted collection of separate components that just happen to be there.“
